THE ULTRA PLANT IS A DARK WORLD that is wracked by frequent thunderstorms. Lightning spears the desolate canyons and valleys of this world and massive cord-like structures bridge the gaps. Whenever lightning strikes, lights attached to these cords light up too. In the horizon, large Xurkitree can be seen, dwarfing the area you arrive in...[break][break]

Several abandoned power stations can be found throughout the area, but they seem to be deactivated...

FERNANDO TAKES THE LEAD THIS TIME. the constant pulse of his SYGNA SUIT serves as a reminder of their limited time here. the longer it takes for the light to flash the closer they are to running into over time. they’ll have to be quick—there’s much to cover and having to haul all their equipment between repeat trips proves exhausting.

his GLALIE forces itself into the crevice that separate the above ground and the circuit world underneath. pieces of the silicon walls chip off as they force themselves through. electricity reaches out to tickle a welcome. exposed hair become rigid and pointed.

odd machinery and broken wires go as far as the eye can see.

The world of electricity greeted her yet again.

It was fierce, it was pulsating to life, it was everything.

"Oh shit, my bad."

Without realizing it, she bumped into JAMES BAKER 's back while distracted by a nearby pole of disconnected wiring. It had looked too much like an ultra beast in the dark and caused her nerves to shoot up tenfolds.

they're all—he says they but he really just means him and Rory Faust—a little on edge despite this being their third venture back into the ultra plant. it still remains unknown territories for the most part, though they have started to learn more about it.[break][break]

the main control board of the circuitry. as complicated as the wires look, even james is able to tell which ones are the important ones.[break][break]

with Rory Faust's help, they manage to resolder the circuitry, causing the power to activate all along the path they can see.

It's hard to say that Katherine is happy to be back. In fact, it'd be a lot easier to admit that it was hard to return to this place, if anything. The rifts proved dangerous despite their seemingly lax difficulty. Navigating through them was no issue with the right party-- but other issues loomed in the horizon.

As before, the Marowak that sticks by her side is spinning its bone unless asked to halt. Its LIGHTNING ROD is in effect, preparing for the eventual arrival of another Xurkitree.

"This place is weird," is as far as Katherine can deduce, or at least, as far as she'll share. "Do you even know what you're trying to give power to? We don't want to create some giant, Ultra Beast abomination."

“NOT QUITE.” fernando is the first to admit that they enter these grounds on ignorance and wonder. doing so goes against the very grain of his principle. to approach the unknown with patience and caution.

but that is a privilege that they can no longer afford. with team rocket sending expedition teams of their own, it’s a race against time to both control these worlds and prevent others from jeopardizing them.

“but better to be by our hands than incapable ones. you and me will take point in handling it.”

his own part in this is as a pokemon trainer. his secondary title as their benefactor is what provides them the ELECTIRIZER to stabilize their electrical output.

She didn't wait for another second to join JAMES BAKER in repairing the circuitry. And, together, they brought life back to the facility.

"Nice! We did it."

Piece by piece, the hallway regained its vibrancy, illuminating its path forward. Excitement zapped her lips into a crooked smile and with a twist of her hips, she offered a quick high-five in wake of their discovery. A high-five that would've been quickly forgotten by the series of quick back-in-forths between Katherine Fairburne and FERNANDO SILPH .

Wherever they wanted to go, she'd follow.

he approaches carefully, then lowers to a knee to examine what appears to be a loose switch of some kind on the ground. carefully, he flicks it.[break][break]

It's not that Katherine is a stranger to dealing with other people's mess; on the contrary, it was in her job description. She can usually afford to make it seem as though it's her choice - that she's doing someone a favour - but that option went out of the window as soon as Fernando clarified their role in this expedition.

Where one might expect the Marowak to completely nullify the THUNDER CAGE, the pokemon's lightning rod fails it. Although it absorbs the electricity, the trap remains powered-- seemingly fueled by some battery or other power source. It puts a heavy strain on the ghost, bringing it to its heels as it attempts to endure the current.

"It's too much! It can't withstand it!" Slight urgency could be discerned in the Malevolent's voice. She draws closer to flick the switch off in case James hadn't done it already. The THUNDER CAGE successfully manages to fry the Marowak. Steam rises from the pokemon as though it had just resurfaced from a hot spring or a boiling pot.

"Just-- try to be a bit more careful." It's a lot softer than Katherine is known for, and it's a lot gentler than JAMES BAKER now deserves.

fernando is quick to dispatch his pokemon to marowak’s aide. the empowerment of his SYNC STONE coats the pokemon in a translucent aura. the electric shock riddles against its barrier, unable to pierce through. ultimately, this does little to redirect the current affecting katherine’s marowak.

his own pokemon is charred along its creases. the black spots between its ice ridges makes it hard to tell a difference.

“tch.”

once the THUNDER CAGE is deactivated, another trap springs. further down their path is an uncontrolled TESLA COIL. lightning lashes out in all directions. an obstacle that boasts being unpassable—a hard stop to their advancement.

Within seconds, the electrical cage was brought to life and then quickly dealt with, as if its fleeting existence held no merit in its presence. Rory kept near the back during most of it, awestruck by each of their attributes. Even JAMES BAKER, who'd felt the most normal, held his own.

Gnawing on the insides of her cheeks, she pressed forward close behind, eyes flicking left and right, cautious with every additional step forward. It wasn't until their group met with an overcharged tesla coil did they stop.

"What happened...?" Lifting up onto her tippy toes, the electrician barely managed to peer over the row of shoulders and caught glimpse of the spark of electricity that lashed out from the top load of the TESLA COIL. "Oh."

Rory's hand reached into her back pocket and tugged out one of her pokeballs. From it, an alolan sandshrew sprang, curious and excited as any baby would be. She knelt down next to him.

With one hand pointing toward the bottom of the TESLA COIL -- at its transformer -- she told the Pokémon, "Use ICY WINDS riiiight there, okay?"

The Pokémon nodded.

Balling up, it the small critter gave a roll forward, sending forth a direct breeze of chilling air, FREEZING over the electrical wires connected within the coil's transformer. As the main power source of it all, from there, the lashes of electricity slowly faded out, strike by strike, until only dust remained in its wake.

"Okaaaay. Done."

james had underestimated the potency of the THUNDER CAGE. it isn't until Katherine Fairburne calls out that he realizes.[break][break]

by the time he scrambles, it's too late to do anything as the situation has been resolved by far more capable trainers than him. for a moment, he feels doubt, but doubt is quickly replaced with guilt.[break][break]

"sorry, yeah, i'll be more careful."[break][break]

he should've been.[break][break]

but it's no use to dwell on it as the THUNDER CAGE springs to life. he watches Rory Faust handle it, impressed by how quickly she had come up with a solution.[break][break]

A hand lifts to shield Katherine's eyes from stray sparks of electricity once the TESLA COIL begins its dance, the faint crackle of lightning buzzing in her ears. "God, how many more of these are there?" She makes no attempt to mask the irritation in her voice and expression.

Fortunately, Rory Faust is quick to handle this obstacle. Her Marowak appears grateful, approving of the scientist and her Sandshrew's actions with a huff.

TOO MANY IS THE ANSWER TO KATHERINE’S QUESTION. for the TESLA COIL and ELECTRIC CAGE are one of many. each time they bypass one of these obstacles, another springs just meters further. like tendrils, they make up the basis of this subterranean level.

navigating past them does not prove difficult. tedious, yes, but the biggest danger is mitigated with a precarious eye. their worry comes in the time it takes to stop for each rise.

fernando’s words come at the sight of their first real encounter. several ultra beast huddled together around a power supply. from the vivid yellow sparks radiating from the XURKITREE, it seems that these pokemon seem to be the power source for their earlier traps. or perhaps, their purpose is more subtle than that?
